RUNNING FLAT

CREATIVE ARTS COALITION TO TRANSFORM URBAN SPACE

In 2017 Jorge Mujica approached 15 artists to participate in a collaborative project called the Creative Arts Coalition to Transform Urban Space (CACtTUS) Patch, including artist Cynthia Luján. Jorge removed paintings from the traditional wall where, as he sees it, “they find a place to rest.” The eye meanders through the surface seeing through the negative spaces. By moving the paintings to three dimensional sculptures they personify living space and create a rupture in the panorama. Lujan’s free-standing-sculpture, Running Flat, stands brightly in safety yellow with black parallel lines, like skid-marks from a tire thatcrawl and turn up and down all three sides of the sculpture.
