Pedestrian Advocacy

Vidas Pasajerxs (Fleeting Lives) was created to raise awareness of the need for better night lighting, creation of ADA sidewalks and more protected crosswalks in the city of Pacoima. This mural is a traffic collision memorial artwork with an aim to raise American society’s awareness that we need further precautions to protect the lives of all and any passerby. Luján’s murals incorporate public signage into her works to increase awareness of the need for greater accessibility within public spaces, and to address barriers created through social conditioning.

Vidxs Pasajeras (Fleeting Lives) is inspired by public signage and the ways public spaces are designed to allow or deny us access while we travel through space. In English, the mural translates to ; while driving and walking through Pacoima one realizes how dark it is at night and the fact that many streets don’t have ADA sidewalks or protected crosswalks.

Artist Cynthia Luján was asked to submit a proposal for the affordable housing community that relates to the onsite community and the community at large. The proposals were collected by Community Engagement and submitted to the property owner with their recommendations for a final decision by the property owner.
