Constantly being around people is a bi-product of living in Los Angeles; due to this people are hyper aware of their physical appearance and of the way they project themselves. The body of work titled Traces is studio portraiture utilizing acrylic paint on paper or panel. These portraits don’t depend on rendering techniques to communicate the essence of a person. Instead of relying on a facial expression or the color of flesh, individuals are often defaced, emphasizing other aspects in gesture and the composition. Traces archives the nuances in contemporary L.A. identities.
