__flatline is an alternative gallery space and art studio creating a platform for artists to further their visual dialogue and concepts. The art gallery opened in North Long Beach in August 2017 by artists, curators and co-founders Cynthia Luján and Elizabeth Munzon. i.e.: insatiable lingua highlights a commonality that most humans yearn to have great efficacy in—communication. Alas, as a dominant form, verbal communication doesn’t quite grasp what we ardently seek to express: as visual artists we resort to the image to satisfy our palate. In these pieces imagery steals, solidifies, and frames the essence, feelings, and objects of time and space.
Broken Links is the seventh exhibition at __flatline and is curated by Cynthia Luján. Featured artists are Annelie McKenzie, Araceli Figueroa, Ariadna Vazquez, Brianna Meli, Kelly Hamilton, and MSP. Their artwork echoes digital media and the internet while prompting viewers to reflect on when we use digital media to communicate and how we use it to connect with one another.
Corporeal is the is the fourteenth exhibition at __flatline and is curated by Cynthia Luján. The work in this exhibition reclaims the body to frame, assess, and shift local & global hierarchies of value. Featured artists in this duo exhibition are artists Jazmín Urrea and Marton Robinson.
__flatline gallery is a community project Luján envisioned upon graduating from CSU, Long Beach. She currently proposes and coordinates curatorial projects in various sites across LA County as an intersection for varying communities to congregate.
